Unplanned Bliss

This was probably the best weekend I've had in a while.

Nothing was on the agenda....which is why on Friday I was in a really crappy mood. Somehow my crazy family must have known because Friday night Amber, Taryn, Justin, Harper, and my mom showed up at my house and we had some delicious Fiesta Guadalajara and a Wii dance party. Then on Saturday, I did a little thrift store browsing, had Taryn and my mom over for roasted chicken, and watched Dinner for Schmucks. Today, Taryn and I went out to lunch, did a little birthday party shopping(Taryn is turning 18), hung out with Amber, Justin, and Harper(it is impossible to be in a bad mood when this kid is around), and then went and saw Unknown with Nick and Jordan. Nothing too eventful, but nothing was planned either. I love it when you have nothing planned, and it ends up being exactly what you needed.

Also...I love my family!

Channeling Martha

So I finally decided to work on the quilt I've been wanting to make since Christmas. I got the fabric around Christmas time, and just never really got started. Amber got me into sewing, and I actually bought a sewing machine on Black Friday. I've been wanting to make a quilt ever since. Now don't think the sewing machine has just been gathering dust in a closet somewhere (OK it's been gathering dust, but that is just because I have horrible house keeping skills...cue Martha :-) I have actually put it to use hemming my mom's jeans, made a cat toy for Jack, made rice bags for gifts(the best ache reliever), and made Christmas ornaments.

Amber has made so many cool things, and she is my crafty inspiration. Here is my Niece Harper's room. Amber pretty much made everything (when I say made i mean sewed the charming bedding, painted and coordinated, and just made everything look this ADORABLE!)

PS. I fashioned the bird mobile hanging above the crib!

Amber is really good at taking found objects and transforming them into something you would actually put in your home. I wish she would share a little bit of her talent and help me decorate my house!

OK, so here is the test block I did, you can see what the fabric looks like. It's going to be a pretty simple quilt, seeing as it's my first. So keep your fingers crossed that I don't totally screw it up!

What to do...

So after much convincing from my little sister, I've decided to start a blog. I'm not sure what I will write about, just my day to day comings and goings. I guess that is what it is all about...just discovering yourself through the simple steps of writing. I can't promise that this will be entertaining or even worth your time, but here we go!
